8 minute clip from FOOD MATTERS DVD

FOOD THAT MATTERS 8 MIN CLIP

"Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food" - Hippocrates.

That is the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in the controversial new documentary film Food Matters from Producer-Directors James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch.

With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what's wrong with our malnourished bodies, it's no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. Food Matters sets about uncovering the trillion dollar worldwide 'sickness industry' and gives people some scientifically verifiable solutions for overcoming illness naturally.

"With access to better information people invariably
make better choices for their health..."

In what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several leading experts in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer.

The focus of the film is in helping us rethink the belief systems fed to us by our modern medical and health care establishments. The interviewees point out that not every problem requires costly, major medical attention and reveal many alternative therapies that can be more effective, more economical, less harmful and less invasive than conventional medical treatments.

Where do you get your calcium?

I was just asked an interesting question!! Where do I get my calcium!

Well here are just a few foods:

Calcium can be found in raw foods such as carrots, carob flour, green leafy vegetables such as kale, mustard greens, collards, parsley, turnip greens, beet greens, and dandelion greens, for the adventurous. Legumes such as sprouted lentils are also a good raw food source, and fresh string beans give an ample supply of calcium . Nuts such as almonds, filberts, and brazil nuts are an excellent raw food source of calcium . Blackstrap molasses is very high in this important nutrient. One way to consume this is to simply put a tablespoon in a half cup of warm water, and enjoy. Sea vegetables such as arame, dulse, hijiki, kelp, and wakame are also good sources, and add an many other trace minerals as well. Sesame and sunflower seeds are another raw food source of calcium .

For those who enjoy fruits, (and who doesn't?) persimmons, currants, figs, and blackberries, to name a few, also provide a most enjoyable way of getting your calcium .

The benefits of Green Smoothies:

Another reason green smoothies are such a great option is that if you are using a high power blender to make them, the fruits and veggies will be broken down to a size that is easily assimilable by the body. For recipes, read Victoria Boutenko's book Green for Life or Google "green smoothie recipes". The basic idea is to start with 40% dark greens like kale, arugula, spinach, etc... and then mix in 60% fruit of your choice. Then work up to 60% green and 40% fruit.

The health benefits of green smoothies are:

1. According to Vitoria Boutenko in her book, 12 Steps to Raw Foods, "when blended well, most of the cell walls in the greens and fruits are ruptured, making the valuable nutrients easy for the body to assimilate. Green smoothies literally start to get absorbed in your mouth."
2. They are full of fiber which is very important for good colon ecology and elimination of waste.
3. They are chlorophyll rich. Chlorophyll is the blood of the plant and it is the molecule that most closely resembles human blood. It purifies our blood. It fights bad breath and bad body odor. It is an immune enhancer. It can help to correct anemia. It will rejuvenate your body.
4. They give you much more than the minimal requirements of fruits and veggies recommended by the American Cancer Society.
5. They are high in antioxidants and phytochemicals.
6. They will help to bring down the acidity in your pH and make you more alkaline. Cancer does not grow in an alkaline body. In fact, most disease grows in an acid environment.

Green Smothie Recipe
2-4 bananas
2.5 cups pure water
5 leafs of kale or spinach or leafy green
Directions

   1.      Put all ingredients in a high speed blender.
   2.      Add enough water so that all ingredients are covered.
   3.      Blend well.
   4.      You may want to add a little more water if you like your smoothie thinner.
